Birthday Week Baby!

Around here we celebrate birthdays All.Week.Long!  :)  This week it's my turn to celebrate my birthday.  If I can't avoid getting older, at least I can enjoy feeling special and loved by my family and friends.  <3

I want you to be a part of the fun, so we will be celebrating by having a party on my blog.  To start us off, I'm starting at the beginning with a Baby card.  After all, we all start our birthdays as a baby, and my dear husband's best friend just had a baby so I made this card for him & his wife.

Today is the last day to order items from the Occasions Mini Catalog, including the Twitterpated DSP and Rue Des Fleurs stamp set I used on this card.  I don't know whether or not it will carry over to the new catalog, so if you love it, order it NOW.   :)  I'm glad I did.

Here's a little video for you showing you how I created this card.

Come back every day this week for more creative birthday fun.

It's My Party...

...and I'll post twice today if I want to.  :)  There's so little time left in the occasions mini catalog.   It ends tomorrow and this beautiful stamp set may be gone forever.  I've been wanting to make this card since the stamp set was released.  I think the layout/sketch is perfect for most of the images in this stamp set, but especially the pen and trumpet.

The difficulty for me came in making the pen.  I wanted it to be gold or silver, but I don't have any SU embossing powder in those colors.  (Shocking I know, that there is something SU sells that I don't have.   lol)  When I saw Ann Clemmer's post using this stamp set I asked her what color she used and she told me More Mustard.  I have had that color marker since I got it in the marker set a decade ago, and haven't yet used it, until today.  It still works, and I think it is perfect for this pen.  What do you think?

My favorite part of this card, besides the focal image, is the background stamping with flowing script En Francais.  I inked it up with Crumb Cake, then stamped off before stamping on the Very Vanilla paper.

The inside is decorated as well.  Sorry the picture is a little blurry.  It's hard for me to photograph inside on dark and dreary days like today.

Come back every day this week for my Slumber Party blog posts.  It's going to be a fun week on Heathers Creative Blessings.  :)

Scrapbook Sunday

Today is my birthday.   Scrapbooking and walking on the beach are my two favorite things to do, so I thought I would show you some of my recent pages.  (hopefully it's sunny today and my husband is taking me to the beach.)
My journaling will go on the LHS (Left Hand Side) of the page between the triangles and the pictures where the blank spot is.  I used retired SU paper called Blueberry Crisp.

Aren't those triangles a fun way to add some interest to your page?  To make the triangles cut a square in half on the diagonal.  In this case I used 3" squares.  After cutting them into triangles I adhered them to a strip of darker paper.  I adjusted the triangles so that they would zig-zag across the middle of my two pages.

My layout was inspired by the current Inspired to Scrap sketch class.  I've only had time to do a handful of scrapbook pages this month, but I plan on focusing my craft time on scrapbooking next month.  After all, the first weekend in May is National Scrapbooking Day.

Have a great day!

Creative Blessings,
Heather

More Mojo 238

Yes, I love this week's sketch over at the Mojo Monday blog.  It reminds me of a lovely quilt.  If you missed the card I did early this week using the same sketch, click here to go there now.

Even though this Sale-A-Bration paper is retired, I used it because 1) I like it and 2) I have lots of it left and 3) I think that the friend I am giving it to will like it too.  :)

In addition to the Everyday Enchantment paper, I used the soon to be retiring stamp sets, You're a Gem and the Hostess set, Happiest Birthday Wishes.    You're a Gem is one of the stamp sets I am sad to see go.  I just bought it last month and this is my first time using it.  I'll probably use it well after it retires.  Good quotes, sayings, and sentiments never go out of style.  The sayings in this set are wonderful for any friendship card.  Be sure to order yours before May 31st if you want to add this set to your collection.

Scrap Into Cards

What do you do with all the scraps of paper on your table after you finish creating a scrapbook page or card?  Why not make those scraps into a card?

Watch the video to see how I put this card together and the inspiration behind this card.

Quilted - Mojo 238

As soon as I saw this week's, Mojo Monday sketch my wheels started turning and I thought about all the possibilities this sketch offers.  This is one of those sketches I will be saving to use again.  (and again and again)

This card is a great way to use up all those extra scraps you have after you finish a card or scrapbooking layout.  It's also a fabulous way to use the scraps you get after running paper through your die cutting machine.

The inside of the card uses up even more scraps, and it is cute enough to be the front of a card!

Here's a look at this week's sketch.  Feel free to join in!

My card is made easy using punches, but you could use your trimmer to create any size square you desire.  I don't have a scallop oval punch, so I cut apart a scallop circle and framed my oval.

Next time I am going to make this look even more like a quilt by using a couple of different patterns.  Come back soon to see what else I come up with.

Heather North

Scrapbook Sunday

Baseball is in full swing here, so there's not much time to create, but I managed to squeeze in 30 minutes here and there and got some scrapbooking done.

These pictures were from a sketch class I'm currently taking at Inspired to Scrap.  If you saw my post earlier this week you got a sneak peek at the LHS (left hand side).  Here is a close-up...
There were jelly fish right under the surface of the water when we walked down to the docks.  I've never seen them in the "wild" before this day.  Super cool!

The original sketch for the next layout had a pretty floral & heart theme, but my pictures were of 3 boys at the Hands On Children's Museum, so I went with circles in Bright colors.  That is the beauty of making sketches work for you.  It was a great way to use up scraps and have my layout reflect the fun the kids had that day.

P.S.  I have another 2 pages almost complete.  I just need to add the journaling and take pictures.  Since I'll be at baseball games all day tomorrow, it will have to wait for my next Scrapbook Sunday Share.  :)  They turned out super cute, so I'm excited to show them to you.  Thanks for visiting my website.  May your day be blessed with creativity!
